Rain finally falls, and more predicted

Westside Eagle Observer/RANDY MOLL Minus the June bug swimming in the rain gauge, just over an inch and a half of rain fell in Gentry overnight, with the rains starting late Thursday. More rains were forecast for the weekend.

GENTRY -- Just over an inch and a half of rain fell in Gentry overnight on Thursday, with more rain forecast for Friday night and through the weekend.

The National Weather Service forecast (https://forecast.weather.gov) for the weekend follows below:

Friday Afternoon -- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Friday Night -- A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Northeast wind around five mph becoming calm in the evening. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday -- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 80. Southeast wind around five mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible.

Saturday Night -- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Low around 69. Southeast wind around five mph becoming calm in the evening. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Sunday -- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Southwest wind five to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday Night -- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind five to 10 mph.

Monday -- A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Monday Night -- Mostly clear, with a low around 72. South wind five to 10 mph.
