Virgil Allen Jones
Virgil Allen Jones, 79, of Decatur, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Circle of Life in Springdale.
He was born June 12, 1943, in Bentonville, to Glen and Bonnie Galyean Jones of Hiwasse. He was a farmer from a young age in the Hiwasse community and spent his entire life in the area. He would often recount the various fruits and vegetables he enjoyed growing and eating. He was passionate about family history and ensuring that the family heritage was remembered and carried forward and could often be found recounting a story to his children and grandchildren that had been passed down to him early in life. He graduated from Bentonville High School in 1961 and married Leota Colville of Gravette in January 1963. They had two children. He owned and operated a farm and raised chickens for Petersons, worked livestock auctions and attended estate auctions. He loved baseball, cowboy art and folklore and all things history. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his companion, Karen.
He is survived by his companion, Karen Taylor; two children, Leon Jones and wife Lisa of Highfill, and Schelley (Jones) Wilson and husband Jeff of Rogers; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be Saturday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 13455 North Mt. Pleasant Road in Gravette. Funeral and graveside services will follow the visitation, at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be left at www.funeralmation.com.
