Pioneers defeat Lions, fall to Goblins in tournament play

GENTRY -- The Gentry Pioneers shut out the Gravette Lions, 9-0, in the opening game of the district baseball tournament on Monday, April 25, at the Merrill Reynolds Memorial Sports Complex at Gentry High School, ending the Lions' baseball season.

The Pioneers scored a single run in both the second and third innings, but added four in the fourth and three in the fifth, to put the game away.

Isaiah Lemke pitched the first 4 2/3 inning for the Pioneers and struck out nine Gravette batters. He walked none but allowed two hits. Drew Nash finished out the game for the Pioneers, striking out four and walking none. He also allowed two hits.

The Lions had four hits in the game, no runs and seven errors. The Pioneers finished the game with nine runs on six hits and four walks. They were charged with just one error.

On the mound for the Lions were Justin Trucks, Holden Betz and Hunter Roughton. Trucks struck out two Gentry batters. Betz and Roughton each struck out one.

Gunnar Woolard led the lions with his bat, picking up two of Gravette's four hits. Isaiah Larsen and Holden Betz had one each.

Gentry's hits were spread out among Gentry's batters, with Isaak Crittenden hitting a double in the game and scoring twice.

The Lions finished their season with an overall record of 8-14.

The Pioneers' baseball season ended on Wednesday, April 27, when they faced off against the Harrison Goblins at Harrison in district tournament play. Though the Pioneers led after two and a half innings, 3-1, the Goblins scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, another in the fifth and three more in the sixth, giving up only one more run to the Pioneers (in the seventh) for the 8-4 win.

Gentry left fielder Dawson Wright led the Pioneers with his bat, picking up two hits and two RBIs in the game. Isaiah Lemke also had two hits.

Overall, the Pioneers picked up their four runs on six hits. The Goblins had eight runs on eight hits.

Isaak Crittenden pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Pioneers and struck out 10 Goblin batters while walking two. Lemke only pitched a third of the inning, walking one and allowing one hit and one run.

The Pioneers finished their season with a 15-9 record overall.
