GRAVETTE -- Members of the Gravette Lions Club held their regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Guests at the meeting were Robin and Joe Jara, of Bella Vista, members of the Bentonville Breakfast Lions Club. Joe is a past district governor of Lions Clubs in Idaho.

The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance to the flag and a prayer. Tailtwister Sue Rice shared the wise advice, "Don't strive to be well known. Strive to be worth knowing."

Treasurer Linda Damron gave the treasurer's report with recent additions to the treasury from the club's successful crockpot festival and from pecan sales.

Correspondence included thank yous from the Mad Hatters for the club's recent contribution and Dean Rowland, district governor, for club members who performed at the district meeting on Oct. 15 in Ozark.

Club members made plans to set up a booth and sell pecans on Highway 59 across from Grumpy's on Saturday, Nov. 5, and also announced plans for a cleanup day at Hillcrest Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov. 9; cleanup of a section of Highway 72 Saturday, Nov. 19; and judging of the annual Peace Poster Contest. Club members will also have a booth at the Chamber's Christmas on Main event Saturday, Dec. 10, selling pecan halves and offering membership information.

Following the meeting, club members Linda Damron, Al Blair, Jeff Davis and Sue Rice stayed to sort eyeglasses donated to the club. 570 pairs of glasses were sorted and boxed to send to areas where they are needed. Persons having unwanted glasses may place them in Lions club donation boxes at several locations in town.

Gravette Lions Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, with Cindy Acree, Habitat for Humanity executive director, as guest speaker.
