GRAVETTE -- Members of the Gravette Gleamers 4-H Club stay active all year but they get even busier as county fair time approaches each fall.

Much time is devoted to community service projects each month. Then, as fair time nears, they begin grooming animals to show at the fair, creating items and preparing exhibits to enter at the fair.

Several Gravette Gleamers entered animals and won ribbons in the livestock shows at the fair. Others earned awards for crafts they entered. New to the fair this year was a special contest for scarecrows and Avery Faith Jowers, a member of Gravette Gleamers, won reserve grand champion honors with her wolf scarecrow.

In addition to crafts, several youngsters entered garden items, plants, baked goods, photography and sewing in the fair. Some of the entries have been selected to go on to the state fair in Little Rock.
