GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers dropped home matches to West Fork and Berryville last week, losing to West Fork, 3-1, and to Berryville, 3-0.
After falling to West Fork on Aug. 29 in the first set, 25-11, the Gentry girls came back and took the second round of play, 25-20.
Things came apart in sets 3 and 4, with the Lady Pioneers picking up only 10 and 9 points, respectively.
Gentry's new head coach, Delanie Tipton, said, "We played really good the first two sets but decided not to come out and finish it off."
Gentry junior varsity lost the first set to West Fork, 25-8, but then came back and won the next two sets, 25-20 and 15-8 for the match win.
According to Tipton, the "junior varsity played well and hard. They really wanted to win," she said.
Against the visiting Lady Bobcats from Berryville on Aug. 30, the Lady Pioneers fell in three straight, 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19.
"This game was our conference opener. We had some nerves that got to us a little bit, but they played well," Tipton said. "We will be ready to play Berryville again later in the season. I am excited to see what we look like later in the season."
The JV team fell to Berryville, 25-16 and 19-12.
