GENTRY -- A new Dollar General Market is currently under construction in Gentry at a new location -- 900 JR Bever Blvd., just south of the Gentry post office. At this time, a store opening is slated for late winter 2022, but construction progress may alter this date.

The new store will be a Dollar General Market, according to a news release by the Dollar General company. "A DG Market offers customers the same value and convenience they trust Dollar General to provide with an expanded merchandise selection, as well a wide assortment of dairy products, fresh produce, fresh meats and perishable foods," the news release states.

"Our fresh fare includes lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes, salad mixes and more," the release states. Dollar General's produce set offers the top 20 items typically sold in traditional grocery stores and covers approximately 80% of the produce categories most grocery stores carry, according to the release.

"Our customers are at the center of all that we do, and meeting customers' needs is Dollar General's top priority when choosing store locations," the release states. "In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers' price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options.

"The store will employ approximately 6-10 employees, depending on the individual needs of the store. According to the release, "Dollar General sells quality, name-brand and private brand merchandise such as foods, health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal items and basic clothing. According to Dollar General, its stores currently offer fresh produce in approximately 2,700 stores and plan to offer fresh fruits and vegetables in a total of up to 10,000 stores in the coming years, with a meaningful number of stores located in food deserts.
