Gravette goes down to Farmington

FARMINGTON -- The Cardinals of Farmington hosted the Gravette Lions Friday, and the Lions went down 90 to 50.

By the end of the first quarter, Holden Betz had scored six points, and Isiah Larson knocked down five for the Lions. But Farmington's Layne Taylor scored 11 points, keeping the Cardinals' momentum as they finished the quarter.

Senior Will Betz brought the Lion deficit to six points with a layup in the middle of the second quarter. Yet, Farmington went into the locker room at the half up 52-32 over Gravette.

Early in the third quarter, Gravette still struggled to try and control Farmington's Layne Taylor at the three-point line. Taylor had scored 34 total points by the middle of the third quarter.

In the end, Farmington remained undefeated in conference play, ranking first in the 4A-1 Conference. Gravette fell to a 3-1 conference record.

The Gravette Lions will host the Berryville Bobcats Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Away from home, the Gravette Lady Lions fell to the Farmington Lady Cardinals, 81-51, on Friday.

The Lady Lions traveled to Farmington to play the number one ranked 4A team in the region, and the Gravette girls struggled to find their rhythm.

The first half consisted of fast movements for both teams. Gravette found its way to the free-throw line five times in the first half, whereas Farmington made it once.

Juniors Alexa Parker and Brynn Romine scored a combined total of 13 points for the Lady Lions going into the halftime break, leaving the score at 38-23, with Farmington in the lead.

The theme of the third quarter displayed field goals being taken on both sides of the ball, although Farmington maintained its momentum going into the final quarter.

At the conclusion of the game, Farmington made way for a home-court win.

The Lady Cardinals remain undefeated in conference play, and the Lady Lions fall to 2-2.

Keeley Elsea contributed 13 points for the Lady Lions, Dalacie Wishon made eight points, and Graci Moffit scored six.

The Gravette Lady Lions will have home-court advantage as they face the Bobcats of Berryville on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
