Gentry girls win, boys lose to Berryville on Friday

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers held the visiting Lady Bobcats to seven points in the first half of Friday night's game at Gentry High School while piling on 34 points in the opening half and widening the gap in the final half for a big 56-25 win.

Gentry senior Alyssa McCarty led the Lady Pioneers with 14 points in the game -- four 3-pointers and two free throws. Shelby Still, a junior, put in two treys and three deuces for her 12 points in the game. Brynn Cordeiro added 11 more points, seven of those at the free-throw line.

Reese Hester hit a pair of threes, Kaitlyn Caswell had a two and a three, Emma Tevebaugh and Destiny Reinhardt each hit a trey, and Presley Ward added a 2-pointer in the final quarter.

The Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Bobcats 18-3 in the first quarter, 16-4 in the second, and 17-5 in the third. The Bobcats scored 13 of their 25 points in the final quarter, with Gentry scoring only five.

The Lady Pioneers were nine for 12 at the free-throw line.

The Lady Pioneers were to host Huntsville on Tuesday (after press deadline) and travel to Farmington on Friday.

The visiting Bobcats from Berryville dominated the game against the Gentry Pioneers at Gentry High School on Friday, outscoring the Pioneers in each quarter and winning the game 66-38.

The Bobcats held the Pioneers to nine points in the opening quarter -- a trey by Addi Taylor and goals by Hayden Henry and Jonathon Corter, and two free throws by Corter -- while scoring 18 points.

The second quarter wasn't much better. Though Henry put in two 3-pointers, Taylor another, and Corter added two field goals and a free throw, Berryville widened the gap by 10, scoring 24 points and making it a 42-23 game at the half.

Both Corter and Garrett Jech scored twice in the third, with Gauge Thompson also hitting a 2-pointer, but Berryville added another 14 points.

In the final quarter, Dylan McReynolds sunk a trey and a 2-pointer for Gentry's only score, but Berryville added 10 more points for the 66-38 final.
