Some Decatur sports programs on hold, others flourishing

DECATUR -- Having enough athletes to field a team has become a problem for some sports programs in Decatur. The varsity girls' basketball team ran short of players this past season and the upcoming school year's varsity football program is on hold due to a lack of participation.

Decatur's baseball program is struggling a bit with many team members lacking experience but the season continues in "full swing," according to high school principal Toby Conrad. The girls' softball program remains on hold due to a lack of participation.

And, while some programs may be struggling or on hold, others are thriving, with both the boys' and girls' Decatur soccer teams doing well and track athletes participating in area track and field competitions.
