Riley Burl Marsh
Riley Burl Marsh, 91, of Maysville, died at his home on May 3, 2023.
He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in his grandparent's home on Rootville Hill, outside Decatur. He attended Jaybird Elementary and Ward Elementary and graduated from Southwest City High School in 1949. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville from 1950-1954, earning a bachelor's degree in agriculture. He entered the Air Force in 1954, serving two years, and was a 2nd lieutenant and commander of Food Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He married Nola Katherine Copeland in San Antonio on Aug. 11, 1956. He was a member of Maysville Missionary Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a rancher who, with his father, at different times grew crops, ran a Grade A dairy and raised beef cattle. He worked the farm that has been in his family for three generations. He also was a USDA federal poultry inspector for 28 years and retired in 1992.
He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Wheeler and husband Alan of Maysville, and Karen Shook and husband Wayne of Maysville; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation services will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at Wasson Funeral Chapel in Siloam Springs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, at Maysville Missionary Baptist in Maysville. Burial will follow at Falling Springs Cemetery in Decatur.
