Lady Pioneers win first game, then lose in soccer playoffs

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneer soccer team played a solid first game against Hamburg in the state playoffs on Thursday but were knocked out of the bid for a state championship during play against Brookland on Friday.

The Lady Pioneers defeated Hamburg, 5-1, in playoff action on Thursday. However, playing in the rain on Friday, the Lady Pioneers could not get the ball into the net or keep Brookland from scoring six goals in the second round of state playoffs.

Brookland, too, suffered a shutout loss, 2-0, during Saturday's play against Robinson.

The Gentry girls finished the season 8-10-1 overall and 3-6 in league play.
