Gentry football season comes to a close at Searcy

GENTRY -- The 2023 football season for the Pioneers came to a disappointing close on Friday at Searcy when Gentry faced Harding Academy in the first round of the post-season playoffs and lost 49-12.

The Pioneers managed 279 yards in the game, to Harding's 506, but Gentry only gained 14 net yards on the ground. While Harding essentially shut down Gentry's running game, the Pioneers did achieve 256 passing yards.

Gentry's two touchdowns came on a Kaydon Koons run and a Talan Willams pass to Dillon Owens.

Koons led in rushing yards with 29. Addi Taylor and Williams were in the negative numbers in their rushing yard attempts. Isaac Jessen was credited with 17.

Williams completed 14 of 30 passes and threw one interception in the game.

Bennett Roberts and Briar Mayberry led their teammates with six and five tackles, respectively. Jared James had four.
