Gentry shut out by Ozark

— Though the Pioneers held their own for three innings against the visiting Ozark Hillbillies on April 18, the Hillbillies picked up 11 runs in the fourth and fifth, to shut out the Pioneers, 11-0.

Chris Wiand started on the mound for the Pioneers, and threw 69 pitches, striking out four Hillbilly batters and walking one. Josh Sewell and Tanner Coy each took turns as relief pitchers in the game. Wiand was credited with the loss, with the Hillbillies picking up 10 hits and five runs against him. The Hillbillies picked up another five hits and six runs off Sewell and Coy.

Josh Sewell was two for two at the plate, picking up the only two hits for the Pioneers, one of them being a double.

Gentry’s six errors played a part in the team’s loss, with three of the Hillbilly runs being unearned, according to statistics.

Following the game, the Pioneers were 10-10 for the season and 3-4 in league play.

The Pioneers next play against Gravette in the 1-4A Conference Tournament to be held in Ozark, at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, with other game times and dates to be announced.
