Betty Duncan

Betty Lou Duncan, 86, of Decatur, died March 20, 2014, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab, Siloam Springs.

She was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Gravette, to Mr. and Mrs. Barlow. She was a graduate of Gravette High School, a member of the Eastern Star in Decatur and the Decatur United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Duncan; and her son, David Blaine Duncan.

Survivors include one son, Jay Duncan of Decatur; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 24 at Decatur United Methodist Church, Decatur. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Brenda Guess

Brenda Ann Guess, 65, of Decatur, died March 15, 2014, in Decatur.

She was born Dec. 30, 1948, in Gravette, to Charles and Lillie Wilmoth Harrington. She formerly worked at Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin Guess; two children, Ryan O'Neal and Tina Callary.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie O'Neal and wife Geneva of Pea Ridge, and Randy O'Neal of Decatur; stepchildren, Darlene, Wanda and Nancy; sisters, Nina Lane and Sue Bultina; brothers, Joe, Kenny, Jimmy and Danny Harrington; six grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs Cemetery. Arrangements were by Benton County Funeral Home, Rogers.

Leonard Heimel

Leonard Forrest Heimel, 83, of Jasper, died March 20, 2014.

He was born Sept. 27, 1930, in South Bend, Ind., to Ira and Izora King Heimel. He loved driving and trading cars, was interested in HAM Radio and was a champion in bowling in the Senior Olympics. He attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Marshall. He served 20 years in the Navy and 10 years in the Naval Reserves.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Heimel, Carol Breyne and Donna Huddleston; and infant brother, Donald Heimel.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda Heimel; sons, Terry (Penny) Heimel of Gentry, and David (Debra) Heimel of Bentonville; daughter, Sharla Kim (John) Collins of Rogers; brother, Ira Richard Heimel, Jr., of St. Joseph, Mich., and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville, Wednesday, March 26, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Bentonville City Cemetery.

Leo Kaufman

Leo Kaufman, 87, died March 20, 2014 in Shreveport, La., after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Kingman County, Kansas, to Amos and Amelia Kaufman. The family lived in Kansas until they moved to Arkansas in 1936 and settled in the Gentry area. Leo spent most of his life in Gentry until he and his wife Esther moved to Shreveport in August of 2009 to be near family. He had been on the Gentry Fire Department for 30 years and served as chief for 28 of those years. He worked in several grocery stores in the area before serving as city superintendent of Gentry, retiring in 1994. He served on the Gentry School Board for 12 years and city council for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Gentry and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was also a faithful member of Woodridge Baptist Church in Shreveport for 5 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Vic, Richard and Eldon; two sisters Dorothy Trammell and Louise Whitaker.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther; two daughters, Brenda Pennywell and husband Mike of Shreveport, Rhonda Gill and husband Ken of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Kaufman and wife Pat; two sisters, Opal Moomey and Ellen Garvin and husband Glenn.

Services were March 25 at First Baptist Church, Gentry, with Jack Jones officiating. Burial was at Gentry Cemetery. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Richard "Pops"Long

Richard Harvey Long died on his tractor March 13, 2014.

He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on June 23, 1923. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Jan. 6, 1941, and was assigned to the USS Enterprise, which entered WWII on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. He survived Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Midway, the Guadalcanal Campaign, Battle of Kwajalein, Saipan, Philippine Liberation, the Battle of Leyte, the Marshall Islands, Iwo Jima and the Korean War. He spent 20 years on aircraft carriers sailing all over the world, receiving numerous medals.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Catherine M. Long; and by two daughters, Barbara J. Richardson and Jeanne M. Simpson.

He is survived by three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private military burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.

Betty McCain

Betty Lucille McCain, 77, of Gentry, died March 20, 2014, in Siloam Springs.

She was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Laveta, Colo., to Homer Holt and Evelyn Drew Holt. She retired from La-Z-Boy after 20 years of employment.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmie Holt; and four sisters, Pansy Lakey, Juanita Browning and twin sisters; Leta and Rita Holt.

Survivors include two daughters, Leann Guthrie and husband Floyd of Gentry, and Jeanie Northcutt and husband Mark of Watkinsville, Ga.; one son, Dean McCain of Siloam Springs; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Holt and Jeff Holt, both of Siloam Springs, and Bill Holt of Pineville; seven sisters, Bea Laffin of Siloam Springs, Penny Cox of Ogden, Utah, Pat Boyle of Gentry, Joann Brambaugh of Manford, Okla., Judy Holt of Siloam Springs, Polly Curtsinger of Kingston, Tenn., and Mary King of Columbus, Ind.

Funeral services were March 25 at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs, with Dwayne Driggers officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery, Gravette. Arrangements were by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

James 'Jim' Stanfill

James "Jim" Edward Stanfill, 83, of Gentry, died March 23, 2014, at Circle of Life Hospice, Bentonville.

He was born Oct. 31, 1930, in McComb, Okla., to James Lloyd Stanfill and Edith Viola Chester. In 1994, he married Nancy Cripps. He was a farmer and attended First Baptist Church of Gentry and Trinity Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Stanfill, and his first wife, Bobbie Stanfill.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of the home; three sons, James Stanfill and wife Anita of Sandusky, Okla., Ronald Stanfill of Siloam Springs, and David Stanfill and wife Lisa of Gentry; three stepsons, Gary Cripps, Eldon Cripps and Coye Cripps, all of Gentry; one step daughter, Diane Miller of Gentry; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly Studer of New Smyrna, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at First Baptist Church of Gentry, with Mark Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Gentry Cemetery, Gentry. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.

Barbara Tucker

Barabara H. Tucker, 89, of West Covina, Calif., died March 13, 2014, in California.

She was born on June 24, 1924, in Arkansas.

She is survived by a brother, Leon Brown of Bentonville; eight children, Charles Wayne Tucker of Decatur, Karen June Medina of West Covina, Robbie Dean Tucker of Covina, Calif., Linda Gale Hutchinson of West Covina, Diane Lynell of West Covina, Thomas Kenyon Tucker of Upland, Calif., Grace Noreen Karr of Peoria, Ariz., and Daniel Ralph Tucker of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were March 18 at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills, Calif. Arrangements were under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina.
