GHS cheer team takes first place at Bulldog Classic

— The Gentry High School Cheerleaders competed in their first competition of the year Saturday at Fayetteville High School, taking first place at the Bulldog Cheer Classic.

“This was such an awesome win,” said Joni Wilson, coach of the GHS cheer team. “Things had not been going as smooth as we would like. In the warm-up room nothing seemed to be going right for the girls only minutes before they stepped onto the competition floor, butwhen they stepped onto those mats, they turned it on. Having eight return off of last year’s state championship team definitely paid off. I was so proud of our kids and their performance Saturday,” Wilson said.

The GHS cheerleaders wore pink hair bows and pink shoe strings in honor of one of their high school teachers who is fighting breast cancer. The girls entered the floor with a sign that said, “This one's for you, Ms. Ramsey.”

The next competition for the Pioneers will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Heritage High School in Rogers.
