GENTRY - In a 15-minute meeting on April 1, the Gentry City Council passed resolutions to fill a vacant position on the planning commission and dispose of unclaimed property, and passed an ordinance revising a final plat.
Council members unanimously approved a resolution allowing the city to dispose of unclaimed/seized properties - mostly bicycles missing parts or in disrepair - by giving them to the Gentry High School agriculture department.
The shop classes, in the past, have been able to use the bicycles to make a few good bicycles for those who might need a bicycle.
Robert J. Krein was appointed to the city’s planning and zoning commission, filling the seat vacated when Roy Jech retired from the commission and resigned his six-year term, which expires Dec. 31, 2018.
Adopted on three readings with a single vote was an ordinance correcting a final plat on property in the College Hill, Second Addition, to reflect the existing deeds on lots in the property.
City attorney Jay Williams called the plat ordinance a corrective measure which does not change existing lots.
In a committee meeting during the last week of March, the police and finance committees discussed the best way for the city to fill a current vacancy on the police department - by hiring one full-time officer or two or more part-time officers. No further action was taken on the matter at the council meeting.
