Halloween events set for Friday night

GENTRY -- Once again the ghosts and goblins will make their appearance on Gentry's Main Street and go from business to business to show off their colorful costumes and receive treats.

Gentry's Trick or Treat on Main Street event is set from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, along Gentry's Main Street business district; and children of all ages -- including adults -- will be out for the annual event which is sponsored by the Gentry Chamber of Commerce.

In Decatur, the city's train museum will be open from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday for Halloween night. There will be a short story at 6 p.m. called "Ghost Handprints." There will also be tricks or treats.

The Decatur Fire Department will host a hot dog supper and trick or treat Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Decatur Fire Station on Maple Ave. Candy handout will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the hot dog supper at 6 p.m.

In Gravette, the Church on the Hill will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Candy, caramel apples, hot cider and cocoa will be available.

A Fall Festival will be held at the Gravette United Methodist Church on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Families are invited to attend the event at the church, located at 202 Akron Street NE, one block north of Main Street. Children will be able to enjoy a variety of activities, including a bouncy house and face painting. Later, everyone can gather around a campfire. There will be refreshments and plenty of treats for all, according to Pastor Eric Meyer.

Beacon Baptist Church in Gravette is having a "Trunk of Treats" event Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30. The event advertises "fun, food, games, candy."

The Gravette Police Department will welcome trick-or-treaters from 7 to 9 p.m. at the police department. Officers will be handing out safety devices as long as they last, in addition to candy. The event at the police department is made possible and fully paid for by donations from Arvest Bank of Gravette, Gravette United Methodist Church, McKee Foods/Little Debbie of Gentry and Gravette Walmart.

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center is having an autumn potluck and bingo party beginning at 5 p.m. The event will include a costume contest with prizes for the best costume.

Gravette Upper Elementary School will be having a literacy day during school on Halloween. Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character and must be able to explain why. "This allows the children an opportunity to dress up, but with a more positive spin on it," principal Mandy Barrett said.

Heritage Baptist Church is hosting a Family Fall Festival, today, Oct. 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for children ages birth to sixth grade. Families are welcome. There will be lots of fun games, a cake walk and tons of candy. No scary costumes, please.
