First Saturday events planned

GRAVETTE -- A "First Saturday" event, sponsored by the Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce, is planned for this Saturday, June 6.

The day's events will begin with a pancake breakfast at the Gravette Fire Station. Serving will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a menu of pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, orange juice and milk. Cost for the meal will be $5, with no charge for children 8 and under. Proceeds will go to the volunteer firefighters, who will cook and serve the breakfast.

A benefit yard sale for Cassie Estep, chosen a People to People Ambassador, and Summer Rose and Landyn Perrine, who will be going to the Little Britches National Finals in Pueblo, Colo., this summer, will be held on Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be continuing on Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Goody Shack bakery just north of the overpass on Highway 59.

The popular Saturday farmers' market will be in operation in Old Town Park in the east edge of town. Vendors set up from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offer good quality produce, plants, homemade baked goods, arts and crafts by area craftsmen.

The "First Saturday" celebration is designed with activities for the whole family. "The Chamber wanted to create a monthly event that would allow the community to better connect with one another while offering something all ages could enjoy," said Amanda Gittlein, GGCC secretary.

Events are open to the community, with many taking place on Gravette Main Street. Kid-friendly activities include a bounce house, face painting, chalk the walk and much more. Families are invited to attend and enjoy food and activities throughout the day.

The first activity scheduled is a poker run. Registration will take place in the parking lot across from the Bank of Gravett on the corner of Main and 3rd Street from 10 a.m. to noon. The poker run will last from noon until 2:30 p.m. with awards at 3 p.m. on the main stage. Proceeds from the poker run will benefit the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center.

Vendor booths, including business booths, arts and crafts, and food trucks will be set up along Main Street from 10 a.m. to dark. An arts and crafts festival will also be held at Granny's Simple Blessings on Highway 72 in the west edge of town. A raffle drawing will be held during the day; participants must be present to win. Local bands will be featured on the main stage throughout the day, with a pie auction scheduled for 5 p.m. and students from the Dynamic Rhythm dance studio performing a recital at 6 p.m.

Families are encouraged to stay and enjoy a short street dance following the recital and a kid-friendly movie which will be shown on a big screen in the parking lot across from the Bank of Gravett. Attendees are welcome to bring sleeping bags, blankets and lounge chairs. Food will be available from the various food trucks and booths. There will also be snow cones, ice cream and kettle corn available to purchase.

Vendor booth space is still available and the Chamber is also looking for new entertainment for upcoming "First Saturday" events on July 4 and Aug. 8. Contact [email protected] or call 479-787-8998 for more information.
