GRAVETTE -- Staff members at the Gravette Public Library and members of the Gravette library commission are busy making final preparations for this Saturday's Renaissance festival. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Old Town Park. A wide variety of attractions is being offered for a small admission fee of only $1.

The shop class at Gravette High School has built a castle backdrop for the event and the art classes have painted it. Guests will walk across a drawbridge and through the castle entryway to enter the lower part of the park where events will be held. All those attending are encouraged to wear period dress but costumes are not required.

Several groups will be performing onstage in the park. Entertainment will be provided by the Brotherhood of Steel, the Society for Creative Anachronism, the Wonder Elixir of Life and Turtle and the Hair. A falconer from Royal Gauntlet Birds of Prey will show his birds, Terra Nova Tribal dance troupe will be performing belly dances and storyteller Alexander Silver will be roaming the park spinning his tales. Kings and queens, lords and ladies, pirates, elves and fairies are expected to attend.

Several food choices will be available, including Q Concession burgers, Subway sandwiches and Maw and Paw Kettle kettle corn. The Gravette Lions Club will be selling pecans for holiday baking.

Youngsters will be able to participate in jousting tournaments with pool noodles and can have their faces painted. A photo booth will be available where festival guests can dress in period costumes and have their picture taken.

Several booths will be set up offering books and various craft items, including pottery, pens, stained glass, jewelry and leather items. Vendors scheduled to attend include Feather in Your Cap, Meister's Realm, Griffith Pottery Works, Williams Woodcrafts, author Nicole Morrow, Enchanted Gifts, J & L Trading Company, Elf & Fairy and Warrior Battles.

Library commission chairman Steve Oler has put in many hours planning this event. He and his fellow library commissioners invite everyone in the area to come out Saturday and enjoy a day of food, fun and entertainment. Buildings are being renovated on Main Street which will be the new home of the Gravette Public Library. All proceeds from Saturday's event will be used for the renovation project.
