Decatur makes changes to library computer use

DECATUR--The Iva Jane Peek Library in Decatur recently changed its policies on the use of the computers at the facility.

The library board, during its semi-annual meeting Sept. 15, voted to discontinue the library's annual membership fees for use of the facility's computers. However, patrons will still be required to fill out a registration form.

The library operates 15 computers, including six recently donated by the Decatur School District. Each computer uses the Windows 7 operating system, with one computer set up for PowerPoint presentations. All computers in the system use Open Office.

Students of the Decatur School systems can use the computers to do homework and save the work to their Google accounts.

Every second Wednesday of each month, the Decatur Library hosts a seniors' bingo party from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The library is able to offer refreshments and prizes, thanks to the generosity of American Legion Post 100 in Rogers, which donated $600 to the program for purchase of the prizes.

From time to time, the library receives donations of books, magazines and newspapers. Because of the limited space, some of these are sold and the proceeds go into the library's budget. Kids books are 10 cents each; all others are 25 cents each.

The Iva Jane Peek Library is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information, call 752-7323.
