Gentry girls have winning week

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers outdid their male counterparts, picking up three wins last week on the softball diamond. The Gentry girls defeated Harrison, 5-3; Jasper, 15-0; and Huntsville, 3-2.

The Lady Pioneers were down, 3-2, against Harrison after four, but a three-run sixth inning gave Gentry the lead and the game when they traveled to Harrison on Thursday.

Alyssa Kelton and Sabra Philpott each had RBIs in the game. Brooke Boston, Kelton and Billi Taylor each had two hits. Billi Taylor had three stolen bases.

Kelton pitched for Gentry and struck out nine.

When Gentry hosted Jasper on April 6th, the non-conference game lasted only three innings, with Gentry shutting out Jasper and allowing only two hits in the game but picking up 15 runs on eight hits in three innings.

Taylor Hull had three RBIs, and Billi Taylor had one.

Kelton pitched for the Lady Pioneers and struck out five in the short game.

And, when Huntsville visited Gentry on April 4, a sacrifice fly ball by Alyssa Kelton in the ninth inning brought Billi Taylor across the plate and gave the Lady Pioneers the win, 3-2.

Both Gentry and Huntsville put a run on the board in both the fifth and eighth innings before Gentry finally shut down the visiting Lady Eagles and scored the final run of the game in the ninth.

Gentry had three runs on five hits, and Huntsville scored twice in six hits. Alyssa Kelton pitched for Gentry and struck out nine. Brooke Boston and Kelton had an RBI each. Makensi Sweeten had two hits in the game. Christina Barber hit a double.
