Screening committee appointed for GIS principal post

GENTRY -- Gentry School Board held a brief meeting on May 2 to form a screening committee for the hiring of a new Gentry Intermediate School principal.

Denise Waters, current principal, offered her resignation on April 27, related to family needs.

To serve on the screening committee are three classroom teachers, Lisa Hillis, Megan Oaks and Jennifer Hinterthuer; one certified support-staff member, Leah Queen; superintendent Randy C. Barrett; one school board member elected by the board, Jim Barnes; two community members chosen by the school board, Larry Scribner and Marshia Gardisser; two classified employees of the campus where the vacancy occurs elected by the Classified Personnel Policies Committee, Julie Sphon and Michelle Arnold.

Other resignations acted upon at the regular April meeting included David Nelson, who is retiring from his high school VoAg teaching duties; Daren Ward from his seventh-grade basketball coaching duties only; Greg Johnson as volunteer head volleyball coach; David Nelson as bus driver; Pam Harrelson as bus driver; Brad Jackson as middle school night custodian; Shirley Evans as primary school custodian; and Eusebio Zambrano as primary school English as a second language aide.

The board, by a 5-2 vote (Randall Bolinger and David Williamson not voting in favor), renewed the contracts of teachers for next school year. No reason was given regarding the two who did not vote for the contract renewal. The board did, however, go into executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss personnel issues. No personnel action was taken following the closed session.
