— With homecoming week coming up and homecoming ceremonies at Gentry High School set for Oct. 7, plans are underway for activities at the school and for the homecoming football game. Theme for this year's homecoming is "Pioneers Take Gold" (an Olympics theme).

The Gentry Pioneers will take on the Huntsville Eagles in Pioneer Stadium on Friday, Oct. 7. Game time is 7 p.m. Prior to the game, at 6:30 p.m., coronation ceremonies are planned and a new homecoming king and queen will be crowned.

Students are encouraged to participate in dress-up days during Homecoming Spirit Week, Oct. 3-7, the week of homecoming, to promote Pioneer spirit. Dress-up days include:

Monday -- "Let the Games Begin." Represent the USA and rock out in red, white and blue.

Tuesday -- "Toga Tuesday." The Olympics started in Greece so students will go back to where it began and wear togas which meet dress code (no bare chests or shoulders) and with other clothing worn under the toga.

Wednesday -- "Class Pride Day." Wear class colors and represent the class with pride (freshmen, red; sophomores, green; juniors, yellow; seniors, blue; and faculty, black). An opening ceremony for the Olympics will precede the afternoon powder puff football game.

Thursday: "Off to the Olympics." Dress like your favorite athlete or show off a favorite team's jersey or T-shirt.

Friday: "Pioneers Take Gold." Show Pioneer pride and dress in maroon and gold.

Scheduled events include:

Rehearsal for maids, escorts, football players, cheerleaders and band at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Powder Puff Game at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Pioneer Stadium (sponsored by the junior class and E. Jones & Westhafer, held if weather permits).

Homecoming Pep Rally at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at Pioneer Stadium (weather permitting).
