GRAVETTE -- Pot Rasslers, the brother and sister team of Jesse Beeks and Jane Beeks from Farmington, was the first place overall winner and won $150 in the fifth annual Gravette Day Dutch oven cook-off. The team also took first place in the main dish category with its chicken cordon bleu, second place in breads with its Italian rolls and second place in desserts, preparing both apple dumplings and Kentucky bourbon cake.

Barnyard Cooks, Barbara Lewis of Fayetteville and Reba Moore of Lincoln, won second place overall in the competition and received $100. They also won first place in the breads category with their hot rolls, second place in the main dish category with their sweet and sour chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob, and third place in the desserts category with their chocolate peanut butter banana cake. Barnyard Cooks were winners of the state championship Dutch oven cook-off in Morrilton in June.

Backwoods Bakers, the team of Amanda Bromley-Hammons, Nancy Kirkner and Randall Lewis from Northwest Arkansas, won third place overall and was awarded $75. The team also won first place in the dessert category with its pina colada poke cake, third place in the main dish category with its Dr. Pepper ribs, and third place in breads with its outrageous dinner rolls.

Sizzlin' Skillets, the team of Adam Richmond and Margie Van Noy of Gravette, won first place in the novice division. The team also won the people's choice award and $50 with its calico potatoes, a tasty combination of potatoes, sweet potatoes, smoked sausage, onions and bell peppers. The people's choice winner was determined by votes from those who participated in the cook-off tasting event.

Drawings were held for several nice prizes donated by cook-off sponsors, including cast iron cookware, a Harps gift certificate, a tree made from horseshoes, and baskets featuring home decor items, beauty products, and snacks. Mervin Yoder, of Gentry, was the winner of the barbecue grill donated by Walmart Store 100.

The museum was open all day and several visitors toured the Kindley home and annex. They especially enjoyed the layout of Gravette, with its train cars operating, recently restored by museum commissioner Al Blair. Members of the Old Town String Band provided musical entertainment during the afternoon.
