GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers came up short against the visiting Lady Elks from Elkins on Jan. 24, dropping the conference game, 55-39. But the Pioneers dominated the Elks in the first three quarters to win, 60-42.
In the boys' contest, Gentry started strong, outscoring Elkins two to one in the first quarter, 16-8, and built on that lead in the next two quarters, 15-8 and 12-9. Both teams scored 17 points in the final quarter.
Cole Cripps led the Pioneers with 18 points, 11 of those in the first half. Austin Morris had 17, Evan Folker had nine and Ethan Hammond eight.
Hannah Boss led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with 16 points.
