Gentry takes eight firsts at FBLA conference

GENTRY -- Eight Gentry students took first place in their divisions and 16 of 17 placed at the District VII FBLA conference held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Fayetteville Town Center.

Schools competing at the district conference included: Bentonville, Decatur, Elkins, Fayetteville, Gentry, Gravette, Greenland, Harber, Heritage, Lincoln, Rogers, St. Paul, Siloam Springs, Springdale and West Fork.

First place winners for Gentry High School were: Amber Ellis - Health Care Administration; Kyle Kilgore - Graphic Design; Clay Wills - Graphic Design; Derek German - Graphic Design; Michael Lee - Journalism; Alexis McCall - Intro to Business Procedures; Miley McMillan - Public Speaking I; Braden Rector - Computer Applications.

Finishing in second were: Destiny Bolles - Business Calculations; and Jake Ernest - Business Communications.

Other students placing were Makayla Case - Intro to Business, third; Madi Boyd - Word Processing, fourth; Austin Brigance - Economics, fourth; Samuel Lo - Intro to Information Technology, fifth; Sadie Parks - Intro to Business Communications, fifth; and Chastery Fuamatu - Personal Finance, sixth.

Miley McMillan was elected as the new treasurer for District VII FBLA. Derek German completed his term as the outgoing treasurer.

State FBLA Conference is April 3-4 in Little Rock. Students who placed at the district level will move on to the state competition.

Gentry FBLA advisers are Joni Wilson and Jennifer Ernest.

"We are so proud of this group," Wilson said. "I don't ever remember eight first-place finishers."
