— Julia Lee, an eighth-grade student at Gentry Middle School, was recognized in front of her classmates in a morning assembly on Friday, May 5, and awarded a plaque for outstanding achievement in art craftmanship by art teacher Heather Turnbow and media specialist Jenny Brown.

Lee received the award for her work on a mural in the library to encourage reading. Her work on the south wall is nearing completion and she intends to complete it over the summer months.

Lee, according to Turnbow, was an exceptional art student when she came to the middle school in the sixth grade and has grown in her skills and abilities over the past three years.

"I wouldn't let just anybody paint a mural on the wall of the library," Brown said, "but Lee is an exceptional art student."

Lee also had numerous other examples of her artwork on display on the library ceiling, where plans include displays of student art on the ceiling tiles.

Lee's parents are Bee Xiong and Kamashi Lee.
