Cabot beats out Gravette in softball tournament

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions lost to Cabot on Saturday, 8-0, after shutting out Mena and Prairie Grove in the Farmington Invitational Softball Tournament on Saturday, 22-0 and 5-0, respectively.

Lexi Gerner, Bailey Elmore and Emily Ellis picked up hits against Cabot, but the Lady Lions couldn't turn anything into runs on Saturday. Cabot, on the other hand, picked up three runs each in the second and fourth innings and another two in the fifth for the win.

Gravette 22, Mena 0

Against Mena, the Lady Lions scored nine runs in the first, seven in the second and six in the third to take the game, 22-0, in three innings on Saturday. Sumer Kaba and Lizzy Ellis each had four RBIs in the game. Gravette had 13 hits in the game. Mena had only one.

Elmore and Taylor Snow pitched for Gravette.

Gravette 5, Prairie Grove 0

Against Prairie Grove, Gravette scored three in the second and two in the fourth for the 5-0 shutout in five innings of play. Gabbi Scott had three hits and three RBIs in the game. Shylee Morrison had two hits and one RBI.

Pitching for the Lady Lions were Lexi Gerner and Elmore.

Cabot 10, Gravette 5

Cabot led 5-4 going into the fifth inning and put up five runs on the way to a win over Gravette in a first-round game of the Farmington Invitational Softball Tournament Friday. Senior Ashlyn Spears picked up the win for Cabot. Spears allowed five runs on six hits and struck out five.

Sophomores played large roles for both teams.

Cabot sophomore Riley Walthall went 3-for-4 smacking a pair of doubles and driving in two runs.

Sophomore Lexi Gerner took the loss for Gravette. She allowed seven runs on six hits. Sophomore Bailey Elmore (2-for-3) homered for the Lady Lions and drove in three runs.

Pea Ridge 13, Gravette 12

The Lady Lions fell to the Lady Blackhawks in the bottom of the eighth at Pea Ridge on March 13, 13-12.

The game was tied at 12 after Pea Ridge scored five in the bottom of the sixth to tie things up. Then in the bottom of the eighth, the Pea Ridge runner placed on second advanced to third on a sacrifice to the pitcher and came home after tagging up on a fly ball to center.

Gravette scored 12 runs on 17 hits. Pea Ridge scored 13 on 21 hits in the game.

Bailey Elmore and Sumer Kaba each had four RBIs in the game.

Gravette 11, Lincoln 0

Lexi Gerner pitched a two-hitter to lead Gravette to a shutout win over Lincoln on March 12.

Gravette unleashed a torrid hitting attack with seven extra-base hits. Jaki Chalk was 2-for-3 with a home run, triple and four RBIs. Gabbi Scott was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Bailey Elmore was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Hannah Cole, Emily Ellis and Sumer Kaba each had a double.
