Springtown Council hears updates

SPRINGTOWN -- According to draft minutes of the Nov. 12 meeting, Springtown's declaratory judgment appeal is in process and the Bredehoeft Street Project remains on hold, pending the decision of the judge on the appeal.

Work on the Bredehoeft low-water bridge replacement project is underway, with no further updates announced at the meeting, according to draft minutes.

The petition for closures for unmaintained streets and alleys south of Arkansas Highway 12 is in progress, according to draft minutes, but clarification is needed on the right of way and how it may impact the fire protection service in the area.

Fall cleanup is complete, and the dumpster was removed from the park.

Flood damage to the creek was extensive, and Alderman Karee Barrett has contacted ADEQ to request assistance with the removal of excess rock and debris. This will likely occur after the first of the year, according to draft minutes.

Year-to-date summaries for the General and Street Funds were reviewed by the council and accepted.

It was announced that flood damage assistance information for residential or personal property personal damage is on the Benton County website.

Jeff Martella is contacting individuals about where would be a good place for a cell phone tower in Springtown, according to minutes.

The proposed 2020 budget was distributed for review by the council. Any needed changes and a final review will take place at the regular December meeting, the draft minutes state.

According to draft minutes, Candleglow Road is in poor condition and is to be closed as one of the town's unmaintained streets. Resident Paul Lemke indicated the street was dangerous and he had assisted people who attempted to use the street. There is a fire hydrant that may be impacted, so Mayor Terri Glenn will contact the Highfill fire chief for his input. Alderman Chuck Bostwick suggested a barricade be placed to eliminate traffic from accessing the street from Highway 12 until it is legally closed.

Public participation assessment of the trial period concluded and the council felt it was working well. Alderman Chuck Bostwick made a motion to revise Resolution 2010-09, (Resolution of the Town of Springtown, Arkansas, establishing the rules for Public Comment at the meetings of the Town Council), and the motion passed.

The regular December meeting was set for 6 p.m. on Tues. Dec. 10, after press deadlines.
