ROGERS -- Coming off a four-match series during the Tiger Invitational Soccer Tournament in Prairie Grove March 1-2, Decatur's Bulldog soccer team faced the 6A Rogers Mountaineers junior varsity team at Mountaineer Stadium in Rogers on March 6 but lost by three goals.

After 16 minutes of hard-hitting soccer that saw both Rogers and Decatur attacking each other's goal, the Mounties team made its first goal by kicking the ball past Decatur goalkeeper Christian Ramirez. Three minutes later, Rogers hit its second goal, taking a 2-0 lead. Rogers slipped the ball past Ramirez one final time in the first half, extending its lead to three going into the break.

As the second half was about to begin, Decatur coach Julie Henderson replaced Ramirez with sophomore Royer Hernandez, a move that proved to quiet the Rogers offensive threat. Henderson and assistant coach Daniel Meyer also made a few position changes which allowed the Bulldogs to go on the offensive throughout the remaining 40 minutes of the match.

Rogers never scored another goal in the match. But well-seasoned goalkeepers prevented the Bulldogs from scoring, as well, giving the Rogers Mounties the victory, 3-0, over the Decatur Bulldogs.
