Lions Golf Classic set May 4, sponsorships sought

GRAVETTE -- Plans have been finalized for the 17th annual Lions Golf Classic. The event, sponsored by the Gravette High School Boosters, is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, beginning at 8 a.m., at Scotsdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. Play will go on, rain or shine.

The annual tourney was organized to benefit Gravette High School and proceeds from the event are used to help fund various GHS activities including athletics, drama, vocal and instrumental music, cheerleaders, academic achievement awards and the arts. Gravette High School athletic director Norman Mitchell has taken over leadership of the event from John Edwards. Edwards, one of the original organizers of the Golf Classic, has served as coordinator many years, and Mitchell hopes to carry on his tradition of service to the school.

Entry deadline for the tournament is Wednesday, May 1. Entry fee is $55 for AGGF members, $70 per person for others or $90 per person including golf fee. Participation will be limited to the first 144 entries. The event is open to both men and women golfers. Golf fees will not be refunded in the event of rain.

The Lions Golf Classic features 8 a.m. shotgun play, four-person scramble and automatic two-putt. Prizes will be given for closest to the pin, longest drive and holes in one. A lunch for all participants will be served after play ends, at the Highlands Clubhouse.

Sponsors are being sought for the event. Corporate sponsorships can be purchased on three levels, platinum level, $1,000 which includes eight player entries; gold level, which includes four player entries; and silver level, which includes two player entries. All sponsors will receive donor recognition, tee box hole sponsorship signs, course refreshments, green fees and carts.

Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 (cash or merchandise donation). Hole prize donations are welcome as well as donations of prizes for the player gift bags (donations of 144 items are suggested). Memorial gifts and other donations are also encouraged.

Business and personal sponsorships are tax deductible. Anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution to Gravette High School by purchasing corporate sponsorships or sponsoring a hole should make checks payable to Gravette School Foundation and mail to Gravette High School Golf Classic, P.O. Box 24, Hiwasse, AR 72739.
