Junior high Lady Bulldogs win in first round, eliminated in Decatur tournament

DECATUR -- Seven teams from northwest and west-central Arkansas descended on the new gym at Decatur Middle School Oct. 12 for the 2019 2A West junior high district volleyball tournament hosted by the Decatur High School volleyball program.

In addition to the Decatur junior high A, teams from Hackett, Lavaca, Alpena, Eureka Springs, Mulberry and Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy all vied for the district championship.

Mulberry was the first team to be eliminated by NWA Classical Academy in a tiebreaker in match one of the tournament. Classical Academy advanced to the second round match with the Lavaca Lady Golden Arrows. Ultimately, the Lady Spartans fell to Lavaca in two sets.

In the second match of the tournament, Decatur eliminated the Eureka Springs Lady Highlander junior high A team, 25-14, 25-17, to advance to the second round facing the number one seed Hackett Lady Hornets. The Lady Hornets took down Decatur in straight sets, eliminating the Lady Bulldogs junior high A team from the tournament and ending its 2019 season.

Lavaca Lady Golden Arrows eliminated the Alpena Lady Leopards to advance to the championship match against Hackett.

The Hackett Lady Hornets walked away with the 2A West junior high district title, with Lavaca taking the runner-up plaque.
