GENTRY -- Although warm, it was a special evening in Gentry on Friday as Gentry graduates finally got to celebrate their accomplishments and receive their high school diplomas in Pioneer Stadium.
Social distancing was practiced and masks were worn by graduates and their guests. Graduates sat in spaced-out chairs on the track, and their guests were seated in family groups in the grandstands.
And the program was brief, with the only speech being that given by valedictorian Autumn Broglen. Salutatorian Brandon Atwood was away at the Naval Academy boot camp in Annapolis, Maryland, Brea Harper, principal at the high school, announced.
Though some were absent due to enlistment in the military, the event celebrated the entire 2020 class, with diplomas earned by 119 graduates.
After Broglen's speech, the graduates filed, one-by-one, across the stage to pick up their diplomas and to pause on the other side of the stage for a photo before returning to their seats.
And, although you couldn't see them unless masks were removed, the graduates were all smiles underneath.
