Gravette Lions Club elects officers during virtual meeting

GRAVETTE -- Members of the Gravette Lions Club held a virtual meeting Tuesday, May 12, and elected officers for the club.

New officers, who will begin their duties in July, are Linda Lefevere, president; Cela Gaytan, vice-president; Al Blair, secretary; Jeff Davis, treasurer; and Bill Mattler, Lion tamer and tail twister.

A second virtual meeting was held Tuesday, May 19.

Treasurer Jeff Davis reported the club's books have been updated and the $256 designated for the Lions Club International Foundation will be retained at the local level until the home office reopens. Dues notices will be sent out soon.

Davis reported that the Arkansas state convention and the international convention have been canceled.

Current international officers will continue to serve for another year.

New district officers were elected last fall. Lion Davis is District Governor-Elect.

The Gravette club is the host club for the district convention which is still scheduled for Oct. 23 and 24. The Gravette Civic Center is not available for that date, Davis said, so the convention will probably be held in Bentonville.

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, where the Lions Club had been meeting, had considered opening June 1, but club members voted to continue meeting remotely during the month of June.

The next virtual meeting will be held Tuesday, June 2, at 12 noon.

Lion Karen Benson reported adult literacy tutor training is available online through ProLiteracy and members who are interested can sign up to do the training at home.

The Senior Center bookmobile will not be reinstated for now but interested senior citizens can call in and check out books by phone and pick them up at curbside.

Members agreed to meet soon to dismantle the disintegrating mural at the Standard Materials Group concrete plant. Jeff will contact the company for authorization to remove it.

A cleanup day for the Lions Club area at Hillcrest Cemetery was set for 10 a.m. today, May 27.
