GENTRY -- In a rescheduled game on Jan. 20, both the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers were soundly defeated by the visiting Saints from Shiloh Christian in Springdale. The boys lost 74-38 and the girls 54-33.

In the boys' game, the Pioneers were outscored 15-8 in the opening quarter and things didn't get any better. They trailed 32-16 at the half, and the Saints racked up another 31 points in the third quarter to the Pioneer's 12, making it a 63-28 game before the final quarter.

Andrew Godfrey led the scoring for Gentry with 12. Jonathan Corter and Zach Zarnagan each had seven, and Jonathan Chapman had six.

On the girl's side, Jaiden Wilmoth scored two goals in the first quarter for Gentry's only points, while the Lady Saints scored 14. The second quarter looked better for the Lady Pioneers when Randi Jo Bolinger and Kelsey Barber sunk three-pointers and Alyssa McCarty made four goals, giving Gentry 16 points with Liberty Brannon's pair of free throws.

But things got worse from there, with the Gentry girls scoring only three goals in the third quarter and two goals -- another by McCarty and a three-pointer by Darien Welch -- and two free throws by Lexi Fowler in the fourth.

When all was done, the Lady Pioneers trailed 54-33 for the loss.

Play at Huntsville on Friday wasn't exactly what one would wish to write home about. The boys lost 65-29 and the girls 55-35 in the games.

Alyssa McCarty again led her teammates, scoring 18 points. Randi Jo Bolinger scored eight on two three-pointers and a pair of free throws. Ashlyn Little and Kelsey Barber both hit three-pointers in the game, as well.

Boys' stats were not yet available at the press deadline on Monday morning.
