Lady Pioneers down Lady Eagles on coronation night

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers downed the Lady Eagles from Paris in a coronation night game at Gentry High School by a score of 63-30.

The Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Eagles 27-11 in the opening quarter and were up 41-22 at the half.

In the third quarter, Gentry held Paris to five points while scoring another 16 to jump ahead, 58-27. In the final quarter, with second-string players, the Lady Pioneers still added six points and held the Lady Eagles to three for the 63-30 win to cap off the coronation night ceremonies.

Brynn Cordeiro scored the first basket of the night for the Lady Pioneers, prompting the throwing of stuffed toys to the floor. The toys were being collected for the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter in Highfill.

Gentry senior Alyssa McCarty, who was crowned coronation queen earlier in the evening, led her teammates on the basketball court as well with 29 points, including six treys.

Gentry junior Kaitlyn Caswell picked up 12 points, two of them 3-pointers. Other scorers for Gentry included Cordeiro with seven, Destiny Reinhardt with five, Lexi Osbourne with four, Reese Hester with a trey and Cayci Capps with two.
