WESTSIDE -- The Gravette Lions and Lady Lions, along with the Gentry Pioneers and Lady Pioneers, had just a short hop to Harrison May 3 to participate in the 4A State Track Meet.
In all, Gravette produced one bronze medal while Gentry also had a bronze medal winner in the boys' division. The Lady Pioneers had one medal winner while the Lady Lions produced two.
Holly Robinson won the state championship (gold) in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, four inches. The Gravette girls' 4x800-meter relay team earned a bronze with a time of 10 minutes, 54.75 seconds. The Lady Pioneer's Natalie Shelton earned a silver medal in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, seven inches.
Gravette's Michael Duke brought home the bronze in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 10.70 inches.
Gentry's ryel Clarence also claimed a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 128 feet, seven inches.
By early evening a new boys and girls 4A State Champion was announced. In all, 32 boys' teams competed for the title which went to Pea Ridge with 105 points. Other 4A Region 1 teams in the meet included sixth-place Farmington with 36 points, 11th place Gentry with 25, 14th place Gravette with 20, 14th place Shiloh Christian with 20 points, 23rd place Prairie Grove with 8 and 30th place Berryville with 1.
It was Valley View High School that took the girls' state championship, earning 68 points, while Pea Ridge finished in third place with 53 points. Other 4A Region 1 schools participating in this year's girls' event included ninth place Gravette with 33 points, 10th place Harrison with 32, 11th place Farmington with 31 points, 14th place Shiloh Christian with 22 points and 16th place Gentry with 20 points.
