Gravette library receives second accessibility grant

GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Public Library has been selected as one of 310 libraries to participate in round two of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an American Library Association initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities.

The competitive award comes with a $10,000 grant that will help the library repair the floor in the children's library, which joins the ADA ramp to the library's collections.

"We are so proud to be chosen again for this wonderful opportunity," said library director Karen Benson. "This second round of funding will provide our library with an additional grant to help us continue what we started in the first round."

The Gravette Public Library received a $20,000 grant in the first round that was used to improve the main entry and lobby to remove barriers for patrons who use mobility aids.

As part of the grant, library staff will host two conversations with residents in September to gain input about accessibility at the Gravette Public Library. If you are interested in getting involved or taking part in the conversation, please contact the library staff at 479-787-6955.

The Gravette Public Library is located at 119 Main Street S.E. Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

"Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities" is an initiative of the American Library Association in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries.
