Fly-Fishing for Teachers

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a free fly-fishing workshop for teachers at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The workshop is designed for educators who wish to incorporate fly-fishing into their outdoor education curriculum.

The class is at Bentonville West High School, 1351 Gamble Road, in Centerton. Instructors will cover the basics of fly fishing, including rod and reel selection, casting techniques, types of flies, and knot tying.

Hike Into History

A family hike on the CCC interpretive trail at Devil's Den State Park is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is hosting the one-quarter-mile hike.

Meet at the Devil's Den visitor center. Registration is not required.

Dogs and Ducks

Learn about dogs for duck hunting from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hunt Family Nature Center in Springdale. Representatives from Retriever Ridge Kennels will talk about how to select the right dog, basic training principles, and what to expect during the first season with a new dog.

Organizers kindly request that participants refrain from bringing their dogs to the program.

Help With Youth Programs

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area needs volunteers to help with youth nature programs at the visitor center. Training is provided.

Volunteers are needed to help for four to five hours in the morning, Tuesday through Friday, one to three times per month.

Reel In Free Reels

Free used fishing reels are available at the Hunt Family Nature Center, 3400 N. 40th St. in Springdale. The reels were donated by Bass Pro Shops in Rogers following a reel-upgrade trade-in event.

Free spinning and bait cast reels are available in bins near the center's main entrance.
