Three to go to state track meet

— Three Decatur High School students took first place in Monday’s district track meet at Fort Smith Southside, qualifying them to compete in the state track meet to be held April 30.

Senior Chelsea Woodall finished first in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Senior Trent Arnold won the 1600-meter race and junior Josh Doud won in the pole vaulting event.

Woodall has made it to the state track meet for the last four years in a row and placed second in the state in the hurdles event last year. She also holds the conference record for the hurdles event, according to coach Stan Ellis.

The junior high also did well in the district track meet, finishing second and third, Ellis said. Combined, the junior and senior high teams brought home more than 30 medals and trophies.

“They’re good kids and they work hard,” Ellis said of the students.
