Maddox resigns from council

— Kurt Maddox, Gravette City Council member, submitted his resignation last Thursday and the following day announced he is forming a campaign committee for the office of mayor of Rogers.

Maddox is completing his second term as alderman for Ward 3, Position 2, in Gravette. His letter of resignation to Mayor Bill Howard, dated July 29, read:

“Consider this my official resignation from the City Council. I am in the process of moving to the city of Rogers and can no longer fill the remainder of my position, Alderman Ward 3, Position 2. I have enjoyed my two terms on the Council and wish the best for the city of Gravette.”

Mayor Howard said the City Council will declare the position vacant at their next regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 26. A replacement can be made at that time, the Mayor continued.

Persons living in Ward 3, which is that portion of the city of Gravette south of Main Street and east of Highway 59, should make their wishes known if they are interested in being appointed. The term will end Dec. 31 of this year when the person elected in November General Election will take office.

Maddox was one of several persons who ran in the recent Republican Primary as a candidate for Third District Congressman. Rogers Mayor Steve Womack won that election and will face the Democratic candidate in the November election.
