Mayors' races now decided

New mayors were elected in Gentry and Highfill, according to unofficial results; and a council seat in Gentry was also decided in last week’s runoff election.

Incumbent mayors Wes Hogue in Gentry and Chris Holland in Highfill were defeated in the Nov. 23 runoff election.

Kevin Johnston, a Gentry alderman, defeated Hogue 261 to 183, receiving nearly 59 percent of the votes.

“I’m not unhappy with the outcome of the election,” Hogue said, expressing confidence that Johnston would serve the city well and also promising a smooth transition.

Stacy Digby, current treasurer/recorder in Highfill, defeated Holland 74 to 46, receiving just under 62 percent of the votes.
