Gravette Residents Are Top Oklahoma College Students

— Two Gravette residents were recently named among the Top Ten Freshmen at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, according to Dr. Jeffery Hale, NEO president.

The two students are Mary Catherine Connolly and Jeremy Henry. Both are now sophomores at the Oklahoma college. They are shown in the accompanying photo of the winners and their Presidential Partners.

“These ten have excelled academically and are leaders on our campus. They exemplify the type of students that NEO prides itself upon.” Nominations for this distinction were submitted by faculty and staff and a selection committee examined criteria that included students’ cumulative grade point average, campus involvement and academic leadership.

Front row, left, is Jeremy Henry who is majoring in agriculture business. He was named to the President’s Honor Roll and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. He is a Student Ambassador, a member of the Aggie Society and a representative for Student Body Government. He has participated in aBoard of Regents Leadership Retreat, Homecoming activities, Aggie Days, the President’s Cup Committee and the State Future Farmers of America recruitment trip. He has helped promote the Development Foundation by speaking at two Presidential Partners events and the Foundation annual auction.

Second from the left, front row, is Mary Catherine Connolly, a major in agriculture communications. She was a member of the Equine Judging Team during her freshman year and served as the Student Body Government representative for the Aggie Society. She has been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa honor society, was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll and ‘Who’s Who Among American Colleges’ publication and received the Cream of the Crop award. She has been actively involved in many campus events and represented NEO at the National Future Farmers of America Convention in Indianapolis, IN. She is currently a Resident Advisor, Agriculture Ambassador, Aggie Society President and serves on numerous committees.

During a ceremony held in January each of the students, who were all freshmen last year, was recognized and presented with a $200 scholarship and medallion.

Their awards and the ceremony were funded by the Presidential Partners campaign. The Presidential Partners campaign was established by the NEO Development Foundation in the fall of 2009 to implement various campus projects.

NEO is located in Miami, OK, and offers Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as numerous one- and twoyear certificate programs. NEO is the largest two-year residential college in the state of Oklahoma.
