Senior Center Report

— March is National Read a Book Month.

In conjunction with National Read a Book Month, the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Suess. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens and books.

On March 2 the National Education Association called on every child to be reading in the company of caring adults. The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center answered this call by partnering with the Glenn Duffy Elementary School, having Mrs. Denver’s second grade class come to the Center to read to caring adults.

See Pictures of the kids interacting with Senior Citizens on page 1B in this issue of The News Herald.

The Center encourages everyone to take part in National Read a Book Month by checking out a book from your local library or having a child read to you. Seniors can also check out books at the Senior Center from the Gravette Public Library Bookmobile. Betty Adams, library volunteer, is available at the Center each Wednesday from 11 a.m. until noon. This is a great way to keep aging minds active. Just read!

We would also like to remind everyone of our Hot Rolls for Easter fundraiser. They are $5 per dozen. Orders may be placednow thru noon on March 31. Delivery is available to businesses in town. All other orders may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, April 2. Call the Center at 787-5950 Monday - Friday during regular operating hours to place your order. Proceeds are used for Meals on Wheels program and daily operating expenses at the Center.
