DECATUR — Summer is nearly over and children will head back to school in less than two weeks, but the Decatur Public Swimming Pool will stay open on weekends until the end of August, Mayor Charles Linam announced Friday.
Once school starts on Aug. 15, the swimming pool will be closed during weekdays, but open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. onSaturdays and Sundays, beginning Aug. 14.
In the past, many of the lifeguards have had to head back to college when school started, but this year all but one of the lifeguards are high school students, explained city administrative assistant Kim Wilkins.
The pool will also be closed on Aug. 6 for the 58th Annual Decatur Barbecue but will be open on Monday, Aug. 8, to make up for the lost day. The pool will also be available for parties through the end of August.
