Electric company offering free CFL

— Empire District Electric Company reminds customers lighting accounts for nearly 20 percent of the average home’s electric bill and is encouraging them to make the easy decision to switch to energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and use less energy and hold down utility bills.

Benefits of CFLs when compared to standard incandescent light bulbs include:

◊Using up to 75 percent less energy;

◊Lasting up to ten times longer;

◊Saving $30 in energy costs over the life of the CFL;

◊If every home in America replaced one light bulb with a CFL, enough energy would be saved to light three million homes for one year.

To help make the switch, Empire will offer its Arkansas customers a free CFL on Thursday, Oct. 6. Customers may stop by the Marvin’s Grocery parking lot, 300 Gentry Blvd., Gentry, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in order to receive a free bulb and important CFL information. Bulbs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
