Pageants planned for Decatur Barbecue

— The 59th Annual Decatur Barbecue beauty pageant and tiny tot contest are now open for entry.

The pageants will be held beginning at 7 p.m., Aug. 4, on the stage in Decatur’s Veterans Park.

The tiny tot contest will be open to boys and girls, ages 4 to 6, and entrants will be required to provide a birth certificate. Tots will be judged in summer apparel and will get to ride on a float in the parade at 11 a.m., with lineup at 10:30 a.m.

The beauty pageant isopen to girls, ages 15 to 19, and will be judged on casual wear, evening wear and a five-minute interview with judges. Contestants are required to ride in the parade at 11 a.m. Lineup for the parade will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Application forms for both contests can be found online at the Decatur Chamber of Commerce website, www.decaturarkansaschamber.org, or picked up at the Decatur City Hall. The deadline for entry is July 27.

Parade

The Decatur Chamber of Commerce is inviting community members and organizations to participate in the 59th Annual Decatur Barbecue Parade.

Those who would like to enter the parade are asked to meet in the Old City Park, behind the Simmons Foods chicken processing plant, at 10:30 a.m. to line up for the parade. The parade will begin at 11 a.m and wind down Main Street to Veteran’s Park.

Other events planned for the day of the Barbecue include a Fun Run, childrens’ games, a car show, and a free concert by country musician James Wesley.
