— Awards were presented to volunteers at the Gentry Senior Activity Center at a special banquet last Thursday.

Following a dinner, Jackie Bader, manager of the center, passed out award plaques to those who volunteered their time to be drivers for the center. Among those receiving the plaques were Don Byard, Robert Martin, Eddy Thompson and Randy Holland.

Certificates were given to Reta Reading for her service at the center, doing everything from delivering meals to work in the kitchen and cleaning the facility; Blake West, a new driver for the facility; Paul Bader, who delivers mealsand assists shut-ins with tasks in their homes; Carol and Leroy Jordan, who helped with meal delivery, in the kitchen and in a variety of GSAC needs; and Mike Croxdale, a charter volunteer who helps with cleaning and any other need.

Flowers were presented to recognize Edith James, Inez Long, Sybil Harper, Nellie Oliver, Sandy Thompson, Clara Garrett, Wayne Shook and Denver Whitehead.

They’ve assisted the center in many ways, from baking and cooking to cleaning and maintenance, Bader said.

According to Bader, the center could not do what it does without the volunteers, and she said there are others who deserved recognition as well.
