Carnahan graduates

— Navy Fireman David Carnahan, son of Darrin and Kimberly Carnahan of Gravette, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a member of Shepherd’s Chapel Church and a 2011 graduate of Gravette High School.

During the eight-week program, he completed a variety of training, including classroom study and practical instruction on Navy customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, also shipboard, aircraft safety and physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations,” which gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Itis designed to galvanize the attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance through application of basic Navy skills in emergency situations.

Carnahan graduated with a sharpshooter medal and, due to his high academic achievements, was promoted to E-3. He is stationed at “A” school in Charleston, S.C., and will serve in the Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet.
